Our Story
Makers Workspace is a community of artists, designers, craftspeople, and creative professionals located in Berkeley’s vibrant Gilman District. Housed in a converted industrial building just blocks from some of the East Bay’s most creative businesses and makerspaces, Makers Workspace was created to give working artists a place to focus, experiment, and grow.
Our studios are home to painters, textile artists, photographers, jewelers, mosaic artists, new media artists, seamstresses, sculptors, and multidisciplinary makers of all kinds. What connects our community is a shared commitment to creativity, craftsmanship, and the daily practice of making.
We offer private month-to-month studios in a secure building designed to support serious creative work. Studios feature natural light, dedicated electricity, commercial fiber Wi-Fi, common work areas, wash-up sinks, gated parking, and access to shared gathering spaces that encourage conversation and collaboration.
More than simply renting studio space, Makers Workspace is about building an environment where artists can thrive alongside one another. The energy of the building comes from the people working here every day — sharing ideas, supporting each other’s projects, opening studio doors during events, and contributing to a culture of curiosity and experimentation.
